White Hydrogen Remains Elusive

White hydrogen, naturally occurring molecular hydrogen trapped within the Earth’s crust, is attracting increasing interest as a potential clean energy source. However, I remain skeptical.
Humanity has been drilling into the Earth for thousands of years in search of water, hydrocarbons, and minerals. Given hydrogen’s position as the first and most abundant element in the universe, one might expect that commercially significant quantities would have been encountered by now if it were truly widespread and accessible.
While discoveries in Mali and other regions are intriguing, the geologic mechanisms for accumulation, containment, and long-term extraction at scale remain poorly understood. Perhaps the scientist in the article linked below have cracked the code. Until there is clear evidence of economically viable reservoirs and proven methods for consistent recovery, I view white hydrogen as a speculative frontier rather than a viable contributor to the energy transition.
I’d be glad to be proven wrong, but for now, caution seems warranted.
